Data methodology
How Earnavest handles investment data
A plain-language account of where numbers come from, when they may be incomplete, and what the payout safety score does—and does not—mean.
Sources and fallback boundaries
Listed-market quotes, price history, search, fundamentals, dividend schedules, and company events are requested server-side from configured Yahoo Finance-compatible endpoints. Supported Gulf listings use the configured Gulf exchange source. Finnhub supplies company news and market-wide IPO or economic events only when its key is configured.
User-entered prices remain identified as manual values. Signed-in accounts never replace missing provider values with bundled examples: they keep a trustworthy prior value with its timestamp, report partial coverage, or show that data is temporarily unavailable.
Freshness and coverage
“Live” means the latest successful provider-backed result available to Earnavest; it does not mean an exchange-level, tick-by-tick stream. Timestamps describe the oldest relevant source when several sources feed one view.
- Quotes
- Requested every five minutes; labeled delayed after 15 minutes without a successful refresh.
- Dividends, fundamentals, and company events
- Normally refreshed in 30-minute classes.
- Market-wide calendar
- Requested in a 15-minute client class when the optional source is configured.
- Foreign exchange
- Requested hourly; missing pairs remain missing.
- Price history
- Varies by range, from short intraday windows to daily caching for maximum history.
Complete coverage means every requested item used by that calculation resolved. Partial coverage means at least one resolved and at least one did not; excluded items are counted beside the result. Temporarily unavailable means no trustworthy current result resolved.
Currency and portfolio snapshots
Currencies are never combined without a verified conversion. Each position keeps its native currency, while base-currency totals include only positions with a valid positive FX path. Missing FX rates produce partial coverage rather than a 1:1 assumption.
Daily portfolio snapshots record currency, valuation version, and resolved/requested coverage. A later same-day snapshot cannot replace one with better coverage. Historical comparisons use only snapshots with the same base currency and valuation version; incompatible points are excluded.
Payout safety score
Payout safety is a model score from 0 to 100 for supported dividend-paying companies. It combines available payout coverage, balance-sheet capacity, earnings durability, dividend behavior, and market-stress evidence using company-type-aware rules. Fund and variable distributions may be left unrated when the model is not applicable.
Confidence describes data completeness and freshness, not predictive accuracy. The displayed calculation time and model version identify the evidence run. Missing evidence can reduce confidence, cap a score, or make the score unavailable rather than being silently invented.
The score is not a calibrated probability of a dividend cut, has not been presented as an empirically validated forecast, and is not a guarantee.
Limitations, demo data, and corrections
Provider delays, symbol mapping, corporate actions, filing revisions, and missing history can make results late or incomplete. Clearly labeled sample data is confined to the public demo and marketing previews; it is not substituted into a signed-in portfolio.
